Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds, in London, is the world's oldest wax museum. Let's have a look.

TRANSCRIPT:

Step 1: What's there?

Madame Tussauds has 180 wax models representing celebrities from the past and present, historical and political figures and characters from horror. Each figure is disconcertingly realistic. When a new one is made, experts research the real person as thoroughly as they can, where possible measuring, weighing, photographing and taking plaster casts to ensure that the wax figure matches in every detail - from height to skin texture to ear shape. You can get as close to the wax figures as you like - touch them, hug them and look up their skirts. But there's more to do than look at the figures. Madame Tussauds staff will take professional photos of you with your favourite celebrity. There's also a ride called 'The Spirit of London' which takes you on a journey through London's history.

Step 2: History

It's been on the same spot for over 200 years. Madame Tussaud inherited the business from her uncle, a man called Philip Curtis who made wax anatomical models and then turned to making entire human figures. The oldest figure in the museum is a mechanical model of a princess which breathes in and out. Philip Curtis made it in 1765. Madame Tussauds hasn't lost its appeal since those days - over 2 and a half million people visit each year.

Step 3: Where is it?

It's on Marylebone Road in central London. It is a 2 minute walk from Baker Street tube station and is signposted from there.

Step 4: Further information

To find out more on opening times and ticket prices, and to book a ticket go to www.madame-tussauds.co.uk or phone 0870 999 0046.

Although it's possible to buy a ticket on the day of your visit, queues can be long, so it's a good idea to book ahead. There are substantial discounts for booking online.

TOP TIP Madame Tussauds has links with other attractions so look out for special offers and discounted tickets when booking.

Healthy Food

Cookie Monster
In 2005 it was rumored that the Cookie Monster was going to become the Veggie Monster to teach kids to eat healthy food. It was just a rumor, as the Cookie Monster still keeps on eating cookies. However, despite his love for cookies, he taught children to eat healthily as we can see in this rap in 1987.

Well, me known for eating cookie,
Bien, se me conoce por comer galletas,
When me don't, they shout,
Cuando no lo hago, gritan,
"Look, he trying to throw loyal fans a curve!
What he doing eating fish,
¿Qué hace comiendo pescado,
Or vegetable dish?
O verdura?
Man, he sure got a lot of nerve!"
¡Tío, tiene mucha cara!

Well, me answer you straight,
Bien os lo diré sin rodeos
When me filling up plate,
Cuando me llenaba el plato
Taking only cookies is all wrong!
Con sólo galletas, ¡estaba equivocado!
'Cause you also got to eat
Porque también tienes que comer

Fruit or veggies and meat
Fruta o verdura y carne
If you want to be healthy and strong!
¡Si quieres estar sano y fuerte!

(Chorus)
(Estribillo)

Healthy food!
¡Comida sana!
Boy, it taste so good.
Chico, sabe tan bien.
Me one healthy dude
Yo soy un tío sano
'Cause me eat healthy food.
Porque como comida sana.
Me love it boiled or stewed,
Me encanta cocida o guisada
Me love it whole or chewed.
Me encanta cruda o masticada
You'd feel just great if you'd
Te sentirías de fábula si
Eat some healthy food!
Tomaras comida sana!

Me promise that when you eat varied menu,
You get more out of every meal.
Sacas mayor provecho de cada comida.
You need balanced diet,
Necesitas una dieta equilibrada,
Come on and try it!
¡Vamos! ¡Pruébalo!
Not believe how great you'll feel!

Munch some carrots or beans
Mastica unas zanahorias o judías
Or poultry or greens,
O pollo o verduras,
Along with your chocolate chip.
Con tus galletas de chocolate.
And banana or plum
Y plátano o ciruela
Will make you go, "Yum!"
Te harán exclamar "¡Qué rico!"
Nutrition... it really hip!
¡La nutrición... mola!

There broiled spring chicken,
Hay pollo a la parrilla
Grapes ripe for picking,
Uvas maduras
And swordfish, tuna and trout.
Y pez espada, atún y trucha.
And apple and cherry,
Y manzana y cerreza,
And all kinds of berry,
Y todo tipo de bayas,
And broccoli and Brussel sprout!
¡Y brócoli y coles de Bruselas
There lettuce, tomato,
Hay lechuga, tomate,
Boiled new potatoes,
Patatas nuevas cocidas,
There spinach and celery and beet.
Hay espinacas y apio y remolacha.
Milk and honey and cheese,
Leche y miel y queso
Peanuts, peppers, and peas,
Cacahuetes, pimientos y guisantes
Pears and peaches and cream of wheat!
¡Peras y melocotones y crema de trigo!

Enjoy
