TRANSCRIPT:

Step 1: What's there?

Madame Tussauds has 180 wax models representing celebrities from the past and present, historical and political figures and characters from horror. Each figure is disconcertingly realistic. When a new one is made, experts research the real person as thoroughly as they can, where possible measuring, weighing, photographing and taking plaster casts to ensure that the wax figure matches in every detail - from height to skin texture to ear shape. You can get as close to the wax figures as you like - touch them, hug them and look up their skirts. But there's more to do than look at the figures. Madame Tussauds staff will take professional photos of you with your favourite celebrity. There's also a ride called 'The Spirit of London' which takes you on a journey through London's history.

Step 2: History

It's been on the same spot for over 200 years. Madame Tussaud inherited the business from her uncle, a man called Philip Curtis who made wax anatomical models and then turned to making entire human figures. The oldest figure in the museum is a mechanical model of a princess which breathes in and out. Philip Curtis made it in 1765. Madame Tussauds hasn't lost its appeal since those days - over 2 and a half million people visit each year.

Step 3: Where is it?

It's on Marylebone Road in central London. It is a 2 minute walk from Baker Street tube station and is signposted from there.
