Merry Christmas

Blinklearning

I wish you all nice holidays. Here is the only Christmas song that has managed to hit #1 on the pop charts (in 1958):  The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)

Lyrics

— All right you Chipmunks, ready to sing your song?
— I'll say we are, yeah Let's sing it now.
— Okay, Simon?
— Okay.
— Okay, Theodore?
— Okay.
— Okay, Alvin? Alvin? Alvin!
— Okay!

Christmas, Christmas time is near.
Time for toys and time for cheer.
We've been good but we can't last,
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast.
Want a plane that loops the loop,
Me, I want a hula hoop.
We can hardly stand the wait.
Please Christmas, don't be late.

— Okay fellas, get ready. That was very good, Simon.
— Naturally.
— Very good Theodore.
— Ah, Alvin, you were a little flat, watch it. Ah, Alvin, Alvin!
— Okay!

Want a plane that loops the loop.
I still want a hula hoop.
We can hardly stand the wait,
Please Christmas, don't be late.
We can hardly stand the wait,
Please Christmas, don't be late

Very good, boys
Let's sing it again, yeah, lets sing it again.
No, That's enough, lets not overdo it
What do you mean overdo it?
We want to sing it agai.
Now wait a minute, boys.
Why can't we sing it again?
Alvin, cut that ou. Theodore, just a minute. Simon will you cut that out, boys!

Merry Christmas Everybody!

An here are the lyrics: a good way to practise vocabulary.

IT'S THANKSGIVING

Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh yeah
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Alright
Come on
I’m wide awake
And I should take
A step and say thank you, thank you
For the things you’ve done, and what you did
Oh yeah, ooh yeah

December was Christmas
January was New Year’s
April was Easter
And the Fourth of July but now it’s Thanksgiving
Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we, we’re gonna have a good time
Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we are gonna have a good time
With the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
We we we, are gonna have a good time
We need the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
It’s Thanksgiving
It’s Thanksgiving

You know school is out
I can’t wait
I can shout thank you, thank you, thank you
No matter what you do, no matter what you say
This is my favorite day

December was Christmas
January was New Year’s
April was Easter
And the Fourth of July but now it’s Thanksgiving

Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we, we’re gonna have a good time
Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we, are gonna have a good time
With the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
We we we, are gonna have a good time
With the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
It’s Thanksgiving
It’s Thanksgiving

Yo, it’s Thanksgiving-givin’ and I’m tryin’ to be forgivin’
Nothing is forbidden, you know we gotta have it
I gotta give thanks to you, and you, and you
Can’t be hateful, gotta be grateful
Gotta be grateful, can’t be hateful
Mashed potatoes on my, on my table
I got ribs smelling’ up my neighbors’ cribs
Havin’ good times, we be laughin’ ’til we cry

It’s Thanks, Thanks, Thanksgiving
Come on It’s Thanks, Thanks, Thanksgiving
Give ‘em thanks, y’all

Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we, we’re gonna have a good time
Oh oh oh, it’s Thanksgiving
We we we, are gonna have a good time
With the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
We we we, are gonna have a good time
WIth the turkey (ey!)
And mashed potatoes (ey!)
It’s Thanksgiving It’s Thanksgiving

Jack O' Lantern

StingyJack
Every October 31 night, Halloween is celebrated all over the world. But, where does the custom of carving pumpkins come from? Let's find out the legend of Stingy Jack, Jack O' Lantern.

Video Transcript
"Come, travel back in time with me as we explore the brief history of Halloween. One of the biggest symbols of Halloween, the jack-o-lantern, is associated with Irish tradition. This comes from the Irish belief, a long ago time, there was a rascal of a fellow named Jack who had the audacity to trick the very devil himself. It is said that Jack played a trick on the devil by enticing him up into a tree, then carving the sign of the cross in the tree so that the devil could not get down. In exchange for removing the sign the devil had to promise not to come after Jack's soul. Well, the devil kept his promise, but it did not prevent Jack from eventually dying. Because Jack had been a stingy miserly drunkard in his life he was not admitted into heaven. Desperate for a place to rest his soul, Jack appealed to the devil to let him reside in Hell. But, because Jack had tricked the devil, the devil would not let Jack into Hell. Instead, Jack was condemned to run the earth forever, searching for an eternal resting place. The devil gave Jack a candle, which Jack put into the turnip he was eating. From that day on he has roamed the earth, with his lantern, looking for that place to rest. And, that is how we got the modern day Jack-O-Lantern."

This year we have a new friend: Erin, our Auxiliary of Conversation. As she talked to us about her hometown, Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard island, I think it is a good idea to know a little more about this place.
