Bad News

laptop smoking

Weekly Links were already written and ready to be uploaded when my laptop refused to turn on. Seems it's serious, so I'm afraid I won't be able to post this week. Hope to be on line again by next week. Sorry.

Brave Stories:Merida

Disney and Pixar have just released a new trailer about the passionate, fiery, and headstrong star of Brave: Merida. And I have to share it with you.

I have transcribed and translated it so that you could fully enjoy it. By the way, I think that Angela will like it.

Enjoy.

Manuel, 'from Barcelona'

image
To start the week with a smile, here is a clip from the British sitcom (situational comedy),  Fawlty Towers (1975). The series deals with the anecdotes that take place in a hotel in England between Basil Fawlty —John Cleese, who is the writer of the series with his then-wife Connie Booth (his wife in the series too)— and Manuel, the Spanish waiter —'from Barcelona' his catchphrase to explain his mistakes in English—  played by a German-born British actor.

By the way, "burro" means "butter" in Italian. Basil Fawlty mixes up Italian and Spanish.

Enjoy.
Pasadlo bien.

and a song: 'From Me to You'  written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1963.

Da da da da da dum dum da
Da da da da da dum dum da

If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you

I've got everything that you want
Like a heart that's oh so true
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you

I got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side
I got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied, oooh

If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you

From me, to you
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you

I got arms that long to hold you
And keep you by my side
I got lips that long to kiss you
And keep you satisfied, oooh

If there's anything that you want
If there's anything I can do
Just call on me and I'll send it along
With love from me to you
To you, to you, to you

Enjoy.

Back to school

image
Back from holidays. Let's cheer up with something out-of date: both for the time -1967 - and for the concept: a song of appreciation for the work of a teacher. The song of the film 'To Sir with Love' sung by Lulu.

TO SIR, WITH LOVE
Al profesor, con cariño

Those schoolgirl days
Esos días de colegiala
Of telling tales, and biting nails, are gone.
But in my mind,
Pero en mi mente,
I know they will still live on and on.
sé que todavía viven y siguen ahí.
But how do you thank someone
Mas, ¿cómo agradecer a alguien
Who has taken you from crayons to perfume?
It isn't easy, but I'll try.
No es fácil, pero lo intentaré.

If you wanted the sky,
Si usted quisiera el cielo,
I would write across the sky in letters
yo escribiría letras a través del mismo
That would soar a thousand feet high:
'To Sir, With Love.'
'Para el profesor, con cariño.'

The time has come for closing books
and long last looks must end.
And as I leave,
Y mientras me voy,
I know that I am leaving my best friend.
sé que dejo a mi mejor amigo.
A friend who taught me right from wrong,
And weak from strong,
entre lo débil y lo fuerte,
That's a lot to learn,
lo cual es mucho aprender.
What, what can I give you in return?
¿Qué, qué puedo darle a cambio?

If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start,
But I would rather you let me give my heart:
pero preferiría más bien darle mi corazón:
'To Sir, With Love.'
'Al profesor, con cariño.'

As you can see, very much in the spirit of the 60s. Enjoy.
Pasadlo bien.

By the way if you check the right sidebar  you'll find a new category: My students'Stuff. Worth having a look.
